As undergraduates at the Iranian Sharif University of Technology, Zadeh and Mehr became friends before traveling to the US to pursue graduate studies at the University of Maryland. What is offered by Zoosk?

In addition to a desktop chat client, Zoosk offers iOS and Android apps. Zoosk assists people in finding relationships by using big data and algorithmic recommendation technology. Its "unique Behavioral Matchmaking system" gains knowledge from users' clicks, messages, and other behaviors to help find matches that are more accurate. The theory is that Zoosk's recommendations will be more accurate the more user data it collects.

Zoosk launched its Photo Verification service in August 2014 with the intention of preventing users from "publishing photos of themselves when they were 10 years younger or 20 pounds lighter."

Users are prompted to snap a video selfie in order to record their appearance from various perspectives and use it as proof of identity. Then, Zoosk moderators decide if the user's profile video and photo match. When they do, the user's images have a green check mark next to them. The Android Zoosk app received the feature later than the iOS version. Zoosk: What is it?
